The Boring Money System That Changes Everything

If money stresses you out, if you feel like you earn but never keep, this article is for you. This is how to finally feel safe and stable with your finances.

Why most people feel broke & Why you should listen to me?

I have been working my 9 to 5 for five years now. During that time I have made many mistakes with the money I would receive each month. Receiving money each month on the same day provides amazing comfort, but if that money is not carefully spent then that comfort is compromised. And no one likes that.

Most people feel very happy on salary day and sad just a week or even less afterwards. Aren’t you tired of this person being you? Don’t you want to go to that same fancy restaurant or movies in the fourth week after receiving the salary, same as in the first one?

It is possible.

Non-Negotiable Safety - Rent

What do you think about money you give for your rent or mortgage? Is it just another expense you don’t like or maybe money you consider a waste? I’ve been paying rent for five years now and it did feel like a waste sometimes. But, can I suggest you treat it differently, you treat it as survival and, maybe weirdly, as the money that doesn’t belong to you?

Each month, the moment you receive salary, put that money away. So salary arrives, rent money leaves. You can move this amount to a different account or put it in an envelope like I do. Let’s say your income is 3,000 euros and your rent is 550 euros. Then your salary is actually 2,450 euros.

By doing this, you are avoiding that uncomfortable conversation with your landlord or the anxiety of mortgage payment coming - you’re avoiding the fear of losing your home. Having a roof over your head is never a waste, even though it is so expensive. It’s a basic human need, therefore we should be smart about it.

Predictable Obligations - Utilities

I will give you six seconds to answer this question. How much do you pay for your utilities, including internet and phone? If you weren’t able to give the answer, then you’re probably not really on top of your finances.

Utilities are the expenses that can fluctuate, you’re right, but you need to know the average total number. This is the expense that also goes to an envelope, an expense that you should separate second after you receive your salary.

If you want to have warm water, light and enjoy in YouTube regularly you need to handle this well.

And of course, cancel all subscriptions that you don’t actually use or like, why waste your hard-earned money.

Simple Life - Weekly Budget

Now that you have separated money for your rent, calculated how much you need for your utilities and separated that money too, it is time for everything else: for fun, for groceries, for buying cleaning supplies, for going out. How can you always have money for these —— you set a weekly budget. And everything else goes here.

Weekly budget, this one golden number, will simplify your life. You will no longer have to ask yourself can I afford this, you will automatically know. If it’s within the budget, then of course you can. If it’s over the budget, then it’s a big NO. You have to adult yourself here. There is no one else coming to save you, this is where you take the biggest care of yourself. This is how you control your money.

It will take a bit of time to realize what your number is, a few weeks actually.

Here’s an example. Let’s say your salary is 3000 euros. Your rent is 600 euros (20%), utilities are 300 euros (10%), weekly budget is 250 euros (33%), savings are 1100 euros (37%). Adjust numbers according to your situation.

Freedom - Savings

If you’re saving without any purpose you will easily spend that money. Why? Because there’s nothing specific you’re looking forward to. Think about it this way.

If you’re saving for your Emergency Fund, you’re buying calmness when something unexpected or wrong happens. If you have 1000 euros in your Emergency Fund, then when your car breaks down, you will have the chance to say “It’s just a bad day, I can solve this.”, instead of “Why me? How am I going to pay for this now?”

If you’re saving for travel, you’re actually saving for freedom.

If you’re not satisfied with your current job and want to leave, you will have the power to do that.

If you’re living with your parents and want to move out, you will be able to buy your independence.

By saving, you’re not just piling up money, you are buying your future options.

Why this works?

You don’t need to be a financial expert to handle your finances well. It is all about organizing and directing your finances. You work so hard for your money, so you should be in charge of it!

This system works because it removes guilt, creates boundaries and works with any income level.

I believe that if you manage your finances well, Universe will reward you with more money. If you stay patient and disciplined with your money, then out of nowhere more will come. I dare you to try it.

You don’t need to fix your whole life. You just need a system that works even when you’re tired, stressed, and simply human.
